HOW THE NAME VALENTINE’S DAY CAME

Valentine was saint, The Catholic Church assigns one date out of the year for each and every canonized saint — known as the saint’s feast day. The saints are remembered on their individual feast days .It is also called feast of saint Valentine or Saint Valentine’s Day. Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who was martyred in 269.

St. Valentine encouraged the youth to marry in the Sacramental bond through the Church and performed marriages secretly to avoid the edict.Then he caught, imprisoned and torture to him.

In prison

Emperor daughter daily brings food to the prisoners. He fall in love with jailer daughter.

Julia was blind. On the last day of prison on February 14th he wrote a letter to Julian “TO MY VALENTINE” and he touches her eyes then she can see it, read the letter. Valentine does many miracles.

He died on 3rd century on February 14th

at the end of the 5th century, when Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day.

LUPERCALIA

Lupercalia on February 15 th

Lupercalia was an ancient, possibly pre-Roman pastoral annual festival, observed in the city of Rome from the 13th to the 15th of February to avert evil spirits and purify the city, releasing health and fertility.Each Lupercalia began with the sacrifice by the Luperci of goats and a dog, after which two of the Luperci were led to the altar, their foreheads were touched with a bloody knife, and the blood was wiped off with wool dipped in milk; the ritual required that the two young men laugh.

valentines began to be replaced by written missives in Europe in the 15th century. The first written valentine is usually attributed to the imprisoned Charles, Duke of Orleans, in 1415.

VALENTINE’S DAY IS NOT ONLY FOR LOVERS BUT ALSO YOUR LOVED ONES LIKE MOTHER, FATHER, SISTER AND BROTHER.WHO SHOWS AFFECTION AND LOVE.
